Meeting with the digitalized urban
I approached the theme of the starfish by crossing the universe of the film Starfish by Man Ray from 1928 (with Man Ray, Robert Desnos and Kiki de Montparnasse), itself visually translating a poem by Robert Desnos. This is the symbolic value that I retained: the starfish, this beauty that we try to grasp in a chaotic reality, in the “eternebre”, according to the word created by Desnos in his poem. I created a series of paintings in different formats where everyday scenes are illuminated by the light and the red color of the starfish. Sometimes, as already in Man Ray's film, the starfish appears imprisoned in a jar: extreme attempt to appropriate beauty or, at least, to grasp the meaning of what appears. The starfish represents revolt, a challenge that love can launch against the banality of everyday life: beauty against ugliness, the perfection of forms against the formless, emotions against insensitivity.
